KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) is set to conduct a project review from May 7 to 10, on Solo's readiness to host the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG).
APSF in a statement today said an eight-member delegation team, led by APSF president Major General Osoth Bhavilai and secretary-general Senior Colonel Dr Wandee Tosuwan, are expected to review the crucial aspects of the Games.
“It includes the various important aspects such venues, sports and technical, transportation, accommodation, classification, anti-doping as well as information technology, media and broadcast, marketing, protocol and events, legal as well as COVID-19 travelling and safety protocols.
“The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between APSF and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is also expected to take place during the project review,” said the statement.
The statement also noted a coordination meeting between APSF and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) will be held to discuss various crucial areas.
Meanwhile, Wandee said issues pertaining to travelling protocols and safety measures at a time when COVID-19 is still a big threat, will also be covered thoroughly in the meeting.
“We look forward to the project review as well as meeting our counterparts at LOC in-person to help expedite the preparation of the Games, especially in areas which require urgent action including venue preparation, accommodation, travelling, health safety and transportation,” he said in the statement.
The selection of the Central Java city to hosts the APG, scheduled from July 30 to Aug 6, was approved by APSF to replace Hanoi, which withdrew from the hosting job last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A flag handing ceremony by APSF to the host city, marking the official handover of the APSF flag from the previous host city is scheduled on Monday, with several key government officials and Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) representatives expected to attend.
About 1,500 athletes from 11 countries in the region expected to take part in the biennial Games for first time since the last edition was held at Kuala Lumpur in 2017. Manila cancelled the 2019 edition.
