KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's dancesport team are eyeing two bronze medals through the standard couple and Latin couple events at the Hanoi SEA Games from May 12-23.
Team manager Chua Zjen Fong said the Linda Mu Ning Huan-Leonard Hoh Jie Ren (standard) and Che Xin Nee-Ooi Say Keat (Latin) pairs are training hard for about six to eight hours a day, six days a week to achieve the target.
He added that the performance of the Latin dance couple during training under Latin World Champions Gabrielle Goffredo and Anna Matus in Bologna, Italy in March was very impressive.
“Although there is no competition for two years, the Latin athletes, who just came back from Italy, show good performance and we hope they will improve during the SEA Games. Besides that, the Vietnam couple has split, so the new partnership is still struggling to be on track.
“However, considering their performance might improve at the SEA Games and their home-ground advantage, we have set this medal target,” he told a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Xin Nee also believes that their progress is pretty good and they have improved a lot.
“So far so good. So we hope that we will get the result that we want and also hope we can make Malaysia proud,” she said.
Malaysia won one gold in the men’s Breaking event through Sam Jee Lek in the 2019 Philippines SEA Games.
