PETALING JAYA, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) Media Awards is now being held as a standalone event, separate from the National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence Awards presentation, which is the association's main annual event.

Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya said the awards ceremony is the association’s high recognition given to media practitioners in the country.

"I believe this award has and will open the eyes of journalists to pursue reports related to occupational safety and health that are very important for workers and employers in the country," he said at the ceremony to launch MSOSH 2022 Media Awards here today.

Entries for the MSOSH 2022 Media Awards which open today will end on July 10; interested journalists can visit the website at https://mpi.my/release/anugerah-media-msosh-2022.

The award, which is jointly organised by MSOSH and MPI, offers a total of RM15,000 in prize money to the winners in three categories of print media and news portals, online radio and radio broadcast media as well as television broadcast and online video media.

Later, at a press conference, Chamil said that he hoped in the long run, journalists would not only report on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) but write analyses on issues.

According to him, the move is to inform and inculcate awareness among the community of OSH.

“I would like to see articles in addition to providing information, commenting and providing enlightenment on eye-opening issues. Maybe the writing can influence the government to amend certain policies related to occupational safety and health,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, MSOSH president Dr Shawaludin Husin said the association would once again host the Annual General Meeting and Asia-Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organisation (APOSHO) Conference which will be held next year.

"The task of hosting the 37th APOSHO Conference is not easy… MSOSH is committed to giving its full commitment to ensuring that next year's APOSHO Conference will be held successfully," he said.
