KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) and HeiTech Padu Bhd (HeiTech) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the development of equipping Malaysian ambulances with smart healthcare technology and services.
In a joint statement today, Celcom and HeiTech said the technology enables emergency healthcare professionals to exchange comprehensive real-time information on the go with healthcare experts back at the hospitals.
The smart ambulances will be equipped with high definition and artificial intelligence cameras, as well as body cameras on the first responders relaying real-time situational information.
It will also be equipped with a fleet management system and Global Positioning System (GPS) for real-time monitoring and surveillance of the ambulance’s whereabouts.
“Emergency healthcare teams who are on-ground or in transit to hospitals can assess and transmit data to healthcare professionals at hospitals using real-time video feeds for better preparation prior to the ambulance’s arrival, leading to better decision-making measures in saving lives,” the statement said.
The partnership between HeiTech, a leading ICT systems and technology service with Celcom, Malaysia’s widest 4G LTE coverage and high-speed connectivity network service provider, is aimed to improve patients’ treatment by providing advanced technologies and communication tools to first responders.
Celcom chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said as Malaysia now embraces the Fourth Industrial Revolution, smart technology has the potential to transform today’s healthcare services with live reliable remote emergency medical response systems.
“With the aim of increasing efficiency to save more Malaysian lives who are at stake, it would serve as a digital mobile emergency room to save more lives and elevate the country’s healthcare industry to greater heights,” he said.
Meanwhile, HeiTech president and executive deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hilmey Mohd Taib said the collaboration unlocks the massive potential of 5G communication technology, especially in digital healthcare.
“This will undoubtedly help pivot the nation into realising the full potential of technology in improving the rakyat’s quality of life.
“The 5G enabled smart ambulance will bring a new meaning to connected healthcare and we believe it will start a wave of other innovations to benefit the people on the street,” he said.
