Perlis govt shares details regarding several development projects in the state

KANGAR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Economic development in the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) has managed to create 280 new job opportunities, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said today.

“The project is divided into two phases, involving 440 hectares, and is expected to be completed in October 2022. The 280 new jobs include 175 in the construction of infrastructure and utilities in the area, with another 105 at the Integrated Business Centre that is in operation,” he said in reply to Mohd Shukri Ramli (PAS-Sanglang) about the job opportunities created by the CVIA at the Perlis state assembly sitting today.

The CVIA project is a 2,500-hectare high-impact state government mega-project with synergy from the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) and that thanks to five investors that are committed to developing operations there, it would create another 2,480 job opportunities in the future.

Earlier, he had announced that several downstream industries will be developed to complement large-scale dairy farming in Perlis, including corn farming, MD2 pineapple farms and planting of the ‘Jerusalem artichoke’ at an area covering 8,465 hectares.

He was commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement regarding the development of large-scale dairy farming with an investment value of RM4.2 billion in Perlis and Pahang.

He said the announcement was good for the state, as it would bring investments of up to RM2.1 billion to the state.

"Actually it was something we had planned before the COVID-19 pandemic involving Felda Global Ventures (FGV), FELCRA Berhad and representatives from Qatar company Balanda.

"So far, they had done several technical studies to see the suitability of developing dairy farming here,” he told reporters as he entered the Perlis state assembly building today.

On another matter, Azlan said that the state government needed to wait for the results of a study before deciding on the need to build a new ferry terminal or to upgrade existing facilities in Kuala Perlis.

He said the study would begin next year after the state government received the RM5 million allocation announced by the prime minister recently.

In other developments at the assembly sitting, Perlis Tourism Committee chairman Asmiaza Ahmad (BN-Chuping) said that the Perlis government was planning to build a coastal recreational area and to upgrade the existing promanade at Laman Brasmana, Kuala Perlis, which had the potential to attract more tourists to the state.

He said currently they were still requesting allocation from the federal government for this project, adding that there was also another private investment project, including a seafood centre, recreational park and motel, that would be developed in the coastal area of Bukit Batu Putih worth RM24.5 million.
