KAO LAURIER MALAYSIA DONATES RM150,000 WORTH OF SANITARY NAPKINS TO B40 UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR -- Some 20,000 B40 students from 20 public universities will receive sanitary napkins via an effort mooted by KAO Laurier Malaysia.

In a statement, Kao (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd said the effort was coordinated through a three-month-long "Menstrual Hygiene is a Woman’s Right" campaign, which was initiated in November last year, culminating in an official handover of RM150,000 worth of sanitary napkins at Universiti Malaya.

Supported by the Higher Education Ministry and in collaboration with MyPerintis, KAO Malaysia president Itou Hirofumi described the synergy by all parties involved as essential in realising the campaign’s vision in addressing any lack of access to menstrual hygiene essentials faced by young women in universities.

Through its long-term environmental, social and governance (ESG) programme, KAO Laurier Malaysia has been a friend to young girls for the past 27 years with efforts dedicated to supporting and educating young girls in hygiene care. SUBSIDISED PALM OIL SMUGGLING RAMPANT IN SANDAKAN

SANDAKAN - Palm oil smuggling activities have grown rampant in the area here, and smuggled oil is believed to be sold at market prices in neighbouring countries.

Sandakan Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) branch chief, Azdy Zukkry John said the uptake in smuggling activities was likely due to the rise of palm oil prices to more than RM6 per kilogramme, in addition to increased demand.

"We are still investigating the misappropriation of subsidised cooking oil that is occurring in Sandakan, but we suspect that this activity is linked to smuggling subsidised cooking oil and selling it at market prices in neighbouring countries.

"We will not compromise and will take the suspects to court because this subsidised cooking oil is meant to help people in need. We cannot accept their irresponsible actions," he told a press conference here today.
