KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 -- Twenty players have been called up to join the Harimau Malaya futsal squad centralised training camp to fill 16 places in the final line-up for the AFF Futsal Championship 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand from April 2 to 10.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said the performance of all 20 players called to join the centralised training camp at Futsal Arena, Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya starting on Wednesday (March 16) was assessed during the Malaysia Premier Futsal League (MPFL) 2022 since Jan 14 Jan by chief coach, Chiew Chun Yong.
“From 20 players called to the centralised camp, only 16 players would be going to Bangkok on March 26 for several friendly matches there before the championship begins,” said the statement.
In the AFF Futsal Championship 2022, Malaysia were drawn in Group A with hosts and defending champions, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Brunei while Group B features Vietnam, Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Australia.
Malaysia will be opening the tournament against Cambodia on April 2 followed by Indonesia (April 4), Brunei ( April 5) and Thailand (April 6) while the semi-finals are scheduled on April 8 and the final as well as the third and fourth placing match, would be held on April 10.
The top three teams will qualify for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2022 in Kuwait in September.
