Labuanites brace for three-day water supply disruption

LABUAN, March 10  --  The folks in most villages and residential areas in this duty-free island have to brace for a three-day disruption to their piped water supply beginning today.

Labuan Water Supply Department director Trinil Indah Puspita said water supply has been temporarily cut and would last for at least 72 hours to almost 27 villages and residential areas following a shutdown to the phase two main from the Pulau Enoe receiving tank to fix a leak.

“The water supply disruption will start today until Saturday (72 hours) and affect almost all villages and residential areas in this island except for University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus, Kg Sg Miri and Sg Lada which get their supply from the Sg Pagar Water Treatment Plant and the Patau-Patau area including certain locations in Sg Keling.

“The repair works on the leakage on the 800mm diameter main at the balancing tank at Jalan Rancha-Rancha started this morning, and we hope it will run smoothly. The main supplies water from P. Enoe to the Jalan Kolam water treatment plant before the treated water is distributed to all locations in this island except for Sg Miri, Sg Lada areas, UMSKAL and also the Patau-Patau area.” she told Bernama today.

She said the scheduled water cut was inevitable and required to prevent abrupt water supply interruptions from occurring in the near future.

JBA will be sending water tankers to all the affected villages and residential areas until supply is fully restored.
