KLUANG, March 4 -- Apart from focusing on agriculture, the youth groups around the Kahang state constituency are also given exposure to Industrial Revolution 4.0 to ensure no one is left behind in the country's development.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Kahang state seat, R.Vidyananthan said throughout his term as Kahang assemblyman since 2008, he had implemented various programmes for young people, including IR 4.0 skills and technical training.

"Such training will prepare the youths in Kahang for industry certification and enter the workforce, which promises better salaries. Skills training such as electrical wiring and car servicing are also provided,” he told Bernama when met at the Kahang District Polling Centre (PDM) here today.

The former state executive councillor said traditional farming in the area could now be improved with the use of modern technology, including IR 4.0 and he would also focus on this.

Vidyananthan said various issues in the area had been resolved during his tenure, which includes, flood mitigation, drainage, irrigation and ensuring all facilities such as schools and bus stops are well maintained.

The 49-year-old candidate explained that the wants and needs of the people vary depending on the an area’s geographical factors.

"Kahang (a sub-district in Kluang district) is a rural area. We have Felda settlements and several traditional villages, including Orang Asli and Indian villages. In the city, skyscrapers symbolise development. But it is not the same here, " he said.

Meanwhile, Vidyananthan, who is also Johor MIC chairman, is confident of retaining the MIC's traditional state seat for three consecutive terms because the party as well as the coalition had always been consistent in servicing the community.

He is confident that the people of Kahang and BN are satisfied with his performance because he was still given the opportunity and nominated to be the people's representative in Kahang.

In a four-cornered fight to defend Kahang in the Johor polls, Vidyananthan will be contesting against Daud Yusof (Perikatan Nasional), Rohani Banu Abd Rahman Krishnan (Pakatan Harapan) and Rosdi Amir (Pejuang).

Early voting is set for March 8, while polling is on March 12.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Vidyananthan won the seat with a 2,861-vote majority in a straight fight against PKR candidate Norlihan Ariffin.
