UCSI Hospital, UCSI and USIM collaborate to set up teaching hospital

PORT DICKSON, Feb 28 -- A private teaching hospital has been established with the cooperation of UCSI hospital, UCSI University and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to promote the exchange of academic and research staff at UCSI Hospital.

The founder and chairman of UCSI Group Datuk Peter Ng said the hospital is the first private hospital in the country with a public wing which enables the people to obtain high quality medical services equipped with sophisticated technology as well as an experienced team of doctors and supporting staff.

“The effort is not only limited to specialists as it also involved other professional health care for daily operation at the teaching hospital.

“I hope through this sharing, we could meet the country’s health care system needs by producing more trained doctors, specialists and nurses of quality as well as talent in the relevant disciplines for health care,” he told reporters here today.

Earlier, Peter represented UCSI Hospital to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UCSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir for UCSI University as well as USIM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamed Ridza Wahiddi.

Peter said the setting up of the teaching hospital would provide clinical teaching and training for doctors, nurses and health professionals as well as providing medical treatment for patients including medical research.

Meanwhile, UCSI University vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said UCSI Hospital together with UCSI University and USIM would participate in the exchange of students, academic and research staff.

"The combination of classroom and practical teaching allows prospective doctors and nurses to face the real world of medicine when working later," he said.

The programme will be implemented soon involving the recruitment of 100 medical students from USIM and 75 medical students from UCSI University for a period of one year.
