Melaka United FC eye one trophy for 2022 season

MELAKA, Feb 25 -- Melaka United FC aim to win at least one trophy in the 2022 season, in addition to finishing third in the Super League.

Melaka United Football Club (MUFC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Justin Lim Hwa Tat said the target was based on his confidence in the line-up of players under head coach Risto Vidakovic.

"I am confident with the ability of those selected by Vidakovic and as professional players, they can definitely adapt to training despite the time constraints.

"With all the efforts made, we also expect fervent support from the fans of Melaka United to help us realise this ambition," he told reporters here today.

Earlier, he accompanied the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam to launch the team's new jersey for the 2022 season at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Melaka United launched the Al-Ikhsan sports jersey, which maintains the team's traditional colour of dark green combined with light green on the sleeves for the jersey at home while the away jersey uses a bright red pattern, and three goalkeeper jerseys.

At the ceremony, Melaka United also announced a list of 27 players for the 2022 season, comprising 16 new players and 11 players retained from last season.

The squad also strengthened the charge with three new imports including former Melaka United striker for the 2018 season, Ifedayo Olusegun, Ghana winger Emmanuel Oti Essigba and Philippine national defender Justin Baas.

Two imports from last season, Sony Norde (Haiti) and Adriano Naarcizo (Brazil), were retained to bring brace the Hang Tuah squad for the 2022 Malaysia League.

A friendly match was also held for the 2022 Melaka TYT Cup between Melaka United FC and Selangor FC.
