23/02/2022 09:03 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 23  -- Malaysians will have the opportunity to watch 44 live broadcasts of football matches aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) during the 2022 Malaysia League season.

RTM, a broadcasting agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM), was selected as a broadcasting partner through a collaboration between RTM, TM Unifi and the Malaysian Football League (MFL).

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said RTM would broadcast selected football matches live through four platforms, namely TV1, TV Okey, Sukan RTM and RTM Klik.

"RTM as a local football broadcasting partner will enable every team in the Malaysia League to get live coverage of matches throughout the 2022 season," he said in a press conference after the event to announce the collaboration here, today.

Annuar said the first match to be broadcast on RTM was between Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Malaysia Cup winners Kuala Lumpur City FC, who will play for Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup this Saturday, which also marks the start of the 2022 season.

Apart from the Charity Shield game, RTM will also broadcast matches in the Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

Annuar said through the collaboration, RTM could implement its social responsibility as a government-owned free-to-air broadcasting station to provide free broadcasts to all Malaysians, especially to those who do not have access to paid broadcasts or pay per view channels.

Meanwhile, Annuar said companies in Malaysia that generated high income should work together to help the development of local football.

“I think there are many more private companies out there that are actually capable and in the position to come forward and contribute meaningfully towards the development of Malaysian football.

"When the league is developed and there are sufficient funds, the teams will be able to benefit from it and be able to further develop the football development programme as a whole," he said.
