Former Milan striker Luiz Adriano leaves Palmeiras

RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- Former Brazil international striker Luiz Adriano has parted ways with reigning Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras by mutual consent.

Adriano, whose contract had been due to expire in June 2023, had fallen out of favor under manager Abel Ferreira after a disappointing 2021 season in which he scored just five times in 35 matches.

In total, Adriano made 106 first-team appearances for the Sao Paulo club and scored 32 goals, reported Xinhua.

He played a key role in the club's 2020 Copa Libertadores triumph but had little impact in the 2021 edition of South America's top club tournament, which Palmeiras also won.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a move his former club Internacional and Rio de Janeiro outfit Botafogo.

Capped four times for Brazil's national team, Adriano's career has included spells at Shakhtar Donetsk, AC Milan and Spartak Moscow.
