NEW DELHI, Jan 26 -- The Indian government has conferred one of the country's top honours on the chief executives of Google and Microsoft corporations.
Microsoft chief executive officer Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai are among the 128 people being given the "Padma Awards" this year, according to a list published on Tuesday evening.
The two Indian-origin bosses of the US-based technology companies will receive the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, along with 15 others from various walks of life.
Nadella was born in 1967 in the southern city of Hyderabad and 1972-born Pichai hails from Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff who died in a helicopter crash in December, has been honoured with the second-highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan.
The awards were announced on the eve of India's Republic Day, which marks the day India adopted its current constitution in 1950.
