KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 6 -- Terengganu FC (TFC) have set up three matches in preparation before the Malaysia League (M-League) season starts.
Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd chief operating officer, Mohd Sabri Abas said pre-season friendlies are scheduled to begin from Feb 5 involving sister club, Terengganu FC ll (TFC ll), Sri Pahang FC and Penang FC.
According to him, there were no plans for overseas friendly matches this year as the world is facing the Omicron threat, which is a new variant of COVID-19.
“Initially, we did plan for pre-season matches with foreign teams abroad to regain our rhythm and new experience.
“But after considering the risks and the safety of players, we decided to camp in Terengganu until the situation has really subsided,” he said when contacted today.
Mohd Sabri said it is hoped the warm-up games which would be held in the period of one week, would ensure the players are ready mentally and physically while building team camaraderie.
“We need the pre-season matches for the coaches to identify the weaknesses of players and to strengthen teamwork.
“They are important for us to ensure both teams, TFC and TFC II will perform better this season,” he said.
TFC concluded the Super League last season in fourth place and qualified for the Malaysia Cup semi-finals while TFC ll ended on the third spot in the Premier League table.
