IPOH, Dec 24 -- Some 1,732 Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) graduates received their scrolls at the university 20th convocation ceremony, held physically for five days since last Dec 18th.
A total of 1,466 graduates received their bachelor's degree and 266 were postgraduate degrees, with 184 of them international graduates from 30 countries, including Indonesia, India, Sudan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Yemen.
The ceremony was held in strict adherence to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) by prioritising safety and health precautions, as well as physical distancing.
UTP, in a statement, said it was also the first convocation by the university to be held in ten sessions for five days, as previously the event was only a one day ceremony.
The graduates received their scrolls from UTP’s two newly appointed pro-chancellors, namely Petronas president and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik and Board Member Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim, who was previously Chief Judge of Malaya, and also chairman of Institute of Technology Petronas Sdn Bhd Board of Directors Bacho Pilong, who took turns to do so.
Also present at the ceremony were UTP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib , as well as UTP Executive Management and Senate Members.
