IPOH, Dec 23 - The Perak Bison squad aim to be among the top four teams in the Sepak Takraw League (STL) 2021/2022 which will begin in January.
Perak Sepak Takraw Association (PERSEDAR) president Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan said the target was based on the combination of new and old faces in the team who had undergone intensive training for the past two months.
"We expect keen competition from the Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) teams in this edition. The fitness element is an important factor which we concentrated on during training due to time constraints and the presence of players.
“The challenge we face when the players do not stay together makes it difficult for them to train. However, after training for the past two months, we have the confidence to pursue the target," he told a press conference here today.
The eighth edition of the STL will be held from Jan 7 until March 27. The matches will be held in several locations involving Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Penang and Ipoh.
Perak Bison were the STL champions in 2019 but had a poor campaign following that. In the 2020 edition, the squad ended up in eighth place.
In this edition, Perak Bison have eight players consisting of seven local players and an imported player from Thailand, Anuwat Sombatdee, 19, who once won gold at the Thai PBS Youth Takraw Men Series 2018 and was National Student of the Year in 2017.
