IPOH, Dec 20 -- Changkat Jong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin was Sunday elected as Perak Football Association (PAFA) president, filling the vacancy left by former PAFA president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu since Jan 21 last year.
Mohd Azhar’s election was unanimously agreed upon at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) organised by 14 PAFA affiliates here today, effective immediately.
The EGM also appointed Perak Menteri Besar's political secretary Datuk Sham Mat Sahat as deputy president and Kerian District Football Association secretary Tajul Hasnan Omar as the new PAFA honorary secretary.
Mohd Azhar, who is also Hilir Perak District Football Association president, and Sham were nominated by 13 affiliates and won unopposed after their nominations were distributed last Saturday.
The EGM organised by PAFA affiliates was attended by 42 delegates representing 14 affiliates while four other affiliates, Tanjung Malim, Batu Gajah, Kuala Kangsar and the Perak Indian Sports Council did not attend the EGM.
Mohd Azhar said his job now was to get PAFA back on track after the loss of their captain at the beginning of last year during a media conference.
The extraordinary general meeting was held to elect the vacant president and deputy president posts.
