KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18  -- Four out of 31 young candidates aged below 35 including the son of the former Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem have won voters’ support in the just concluded 12th Sarawak State Election.

Azizul Annuar Adenan, 30, continued his late father’s legacy when he won the Tanjong Datu seat, taking over the helm from his mother Puan Sri Jamilah Anu who held the seat after Adenan's passing in 2017.

The youngest candidate and a new face fielded by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition won with a large majority of 4,502 votes defeating Abdul Talip Ba'ee (Independent), Jery'in Fauzi (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) and Goem Pijar (Parti Bumi Kenyalang - PBK).

A total of 31 candidates or 8.9 per cent of the 349 candidates fielded in the state polls were those aged 35 and below.

Three other young GPS candidates given mandates by the people are Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, 33, (Lingga) Royston Valentine, 35 (Tellian) and Allan Siden Gramong, 35 (Machan).

Meanwhile, the youngest candidates Olivia Lim Wen Sia (PBK) and Cherishe Ng Phuay Hui (PKR), both aged 24, have yet to convince local voters to root for them.
