TUMPAT, Dec 17 -- Kuaci, which is baked seeds of the sunflower, pumpkin or watermelon seeds, is a snack food and normally the choice snack when sitting and relaxing with family members or friends and when watching television or at movies.
It a normal snack food, but entrepreneur Anis Ayuni Mohammad, 30, has been able to turn it into a popular snack by branding her kuaci product “Kuaci Tertawa” or Laughing Kuaci, with her making a sale of up to RM40,000 a month.
She said she came up with the name ‘Kuaci Tertawa’ for her product when she attended a business course in Kota Bharu when her mentor, whom she identified only as Chef E, suggested that she look for a name that was unique and could be remembered easily.
“In class, during the course, I inadvertently laughed when naming my product and at that time my mentor suggested that I name my kuaci product ‘Kuaci Tertawa’,” said when met by Bernama at her factory in Kampung Periok, Tumpat, here, today.
The mother of two said there were various challenged she had to go through when she started her business.
“I have ventured into many businesses and sold numerous products such as beauty products and food, having been an agent for some of the beauty and food products. The experience I went through taught me more on making business a success,” said Anis Ayuni, who obtained her supply of kuaci from Kuala Lumpur.
Anis Ayuni said she also developed her own recipes to vary her kuaci products and gave them different taste from those already in the market.
“I use Youtube as a source of reference to produce the kuaci recipes,” she said, adding that she was able to produce 600 bottles of her “Kuaci Tertawa” a day. She has four workers to help her.
Anis Ayuni said she had not expected her kuaci business, which she started with a capital of only RM2,000 could penetrate into international market.
She said her product is now sold in Singapore and could also be ordered online through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
