S1K: Double joy for Team R Engineering HMRT

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28  --  It was a jubilant moment for team R Engineering HMRT as they concluded the Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race (S1K) with a double podium finish in the Stock (S) Production category at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), yesterday.

Lai Wee Sing and Calvin Wong ended the race as the champions with 177 laps while teammates Putera Adam and Chiow Teck Song finished second with 176 laps.

Privateer team #46's Baron Sim, Pee Sau Fan and Ian Wong Jien Sean completed 174 laps to finish the race in third place.

All in the top three drove the Honda Jazz during the nine-hour-long race.

Champions Lai Wee Sing and Calvin Wong in a joint statement from SIC today said luck was definitely on their side in the race today.

“Overall, the team did a good job to keep all the strategies in place,” they said.

Meanwhile, privateer team #7 led by Leona Chin, emerged as the champions in the Modified (M) category.

The team which also comprised Akina Teo, Tham Yik Choon, Adrian Chong and Mohd Nasri drove a Suzuki Swift painted in green, finished with 178 laps.

Leona said the team was delighted to win the race, and thanked fellow sponsors for the arrangements made to compete in S1K.

In the meantime, steady performance from the Tedco Racing team which drove a Honda Jazz saw them finish the race in second place through racers Yee Kok Jun, Mah Siew Chean, Foo Yung Chieh and Aaron Lim Say Joon 

Wing Hin Motorsports comprising Hayden Haikal and Timothy Yeo Renquan who drove a Toyota Yaris, also got onto the podium with 176 laps.

The S1K, which began in 2009, is for production cars below 1600cc, and was previously known as the Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER).
