SEREMBAN, Nov 21 -- The Negeri Sembilan Forestry Department has planted 30,000 trees throughout the state since the start of the year, state director Saleh Awaludin said.
He said the effort was part of the 100-million tree planting campaign, and done with the assistance of various parties, including corporations, educational institutes, village committees and other government agencies.
He said the tree planting campaign would increase awareness of the importance of trees as well as conserve and preserve green areas in the state.
"This campaign has received encouraging response from people in the state. We are convinced even more will involve themselves in tree planting as they will be rewarded with points that can be used to redeem items,” he told Bernama after a tree planting programme involving Kampung Siliau Hilir, which was also attended by Negeri Sembilan Department of Irrigation and Drainage director Ir Saari Abdullah.
Saleh said the department intends to plant 300,000 trees next year.
"To realise the Greening Malaysia Agenda as a national agenda, I urge and welcome more participation from government and private agencies, schools, public and private universities as well as local communities to plant trees and overcome climate change,” he added.
He said 300 rare rainforest trees were planted around Kolam Takungan Banjir Kampung Siliau Hilir, Rantau here as part of today’s programme.
