KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 -- GD Express Carrier Bhd (GDEX) has unveiled its fleet’s first all-electric motorcycle, as part of its Go Green initiative.
In a statement today, GDEX said the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet is in line with the nation’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity to gross domestic product (GDP) by 45 per cent by 2030, as highlighted in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Managing director and group chief executive officer Teong Teck Lean said logistics and last-mile delivery players have an important role to play in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by exploring and adopting more green solutions in the daily operations.
“The electric motorcycle marks the beginning of green initiatives that GDEX is embarking on and we look forward to continuing studying and implementing more sustainability measures going forward,” he said.
Teong said the group was grateful for the government's initiatives in Budget 2022 to support the adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia that will certainly support the company’s green journey.
Moreover, the group said it would be exploring the use of electric bicycles and tricycles next, which will cater to a different segment of locations, such as neighbourhoods.
