PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 -- The Federal Territories Ministry will establish a silat arena in the Federal Territories to enable its enthusiasts to practise the Malay martial art in an orderly manner, thus raising its image in the eyes of the world.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said the locations would be announced soon.
Shahidan also said he hoped the traditional art will be given a platform like other sports that can unite the people irrespective of race and religion.
He told this to reporters after launching the Federal Territories Silat Festival 2021 here today.
Meanwhile, at the event, the ministry was given recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for organising the first virtual silat festival and holding the most silat styles demonstration virtually.
A certificate of recognition was handed over to Shahidan by MBOR Business Development director Jwan Heah Yeow Hooi.
The festival is being held over three days beginning today involving activities and silat-related seminars including the National Virtual Silat Open Championship 2021.
