KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 – The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) presented letters of appointment as mutawalli (trustee) to ASNB Wakalah Sdn Bhd (AWSB) and Waqaf Felda, today.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar, said the mutawalli are authorised to manage and collect waqf (endowment) on behalf of MAIWP.

“Today, we witness two big Malaysian companies approved as mutawalli by MAIWP to ensure continuity of the MAIWP waqf.

“ASNB Wakalah Sdn Bhd will manage Wakaf ASNB, while Waqaf Felda will manage FELDA’s corporate waqf,” said Mohd Daud in a statement today.

He said MAIWP has 3 categories of trustees: the education waqf mutawalli, unit trust waqf mutawalli and corporate waqf mutawalli.

Mohd Daud said the appointments were aimed at encouraging Muslims to donate, as well as the systematic administration of waqf.

Earlier, MAIWP had greenlighted the appointment of six learning institutions as mutawalli.

Today, the letter of appointment for ASNB was presented to Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) president and group chief executive officer, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, by MAIWP acting chief executive officer, Mohd Nizam Yahya.

A letter of appointment was also presented to Felda director-general, Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar, and  witnessed by Felda chairman, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, and Mohd Daud.
