Widad bags RM244.3 mln job to build part of KB-Kuala Krai Expressway

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 -- Widad Group Bhd has won a RM244.3 million construction contract to build Package 3C of the Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Expressway in Kelantan.

The construction and facility management services provider said wholly-owned subsidiary Widad Builders Sdn Bhd (WBSB), today accepted the letter of award from the Public Works Department (JKR).

The three-year contract would start from Dec 27, 2021, it said in a statement.

Widad group managing director Datuk Dr Mohd Rizal Mohd Jaafar said amid the challenging environment, the group remained very active in securing new projects and was confident of taking up more construction and integrated facility management projects this year.

“With the progress that we have achieved in securing our order book, we feel positive about spearheading these industries as a formidable player going ahead.

“We are also optimistic about achieving our key performance outcome and sustaining the financial performance this year,” he said in the statement.

So far this year, Widad has secured contracts totalling RM545.7 million, bringing the group’s outstanding order book to about RM1.74 billion.

According to Mohd Rizal, the group has enough projects to keep it very busy for the next three to five years.

He said some of the contracts secured in recent months were a RM53.2 million contract to build a school in Bangi and a RM29 million contract for facilities management and maintenance of Royal Brunei Naval Base; as well as Kedah state government projects to upgrade water treatment plants in Kuala Muda and Baling in Kedah worth RM129.4 million and RM89.8 million, respectively.

“To ensure continuous expansion of its business, Widad will continue to adopt a three-pronged strategy namely capturing of opportunities through normal bidding, leveraging on group synergy as well as acquiring long-term concession assets,” he added.
