SEREMBAN, Sept 22 -- Although Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) lacked star players, it was not an obstacle for the team to win the 2021 Premier League title, said head coach K. Devan.
He said team spirit fostered by experienced players such as captain Mohamad Zaquan Adha Abd Radzak and other senior players encouraged the team to perform consistently in every Premier League match this season to achieve the long-awaited success.
"I feel this success could not have been achieved without players like Annas Rahmat, Nasrullah Haniff Johan and also Saiful Ridzuwan Selamat ... the senior players who play for this team have good character and guide younger players even though only Mohamad Zaquan is our only star," he told reporters here today.
Devan said the achievement of winning the league was even sweeter when it was contributed by players who were mostly born in Negeri Sembilan itself.
He said the focus after this is to prepare the team for the Malaysia Cup match which is scheduled to start on Sept 26.
Mohamad Zaquan Adha said winning the Premier League title was not the end but all players should take this success as an impetus to ensure NSFC continue to be a consistent team in the local league for a long time.
Negeri Sembilan FC finally ended their title drought by winning the 2021 Premier League after beating PDRM FC 4-2 at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Paroi last night.
The title is their first since winning the Malaysia Cup in 2011 and Sumbangsih Cup in 2012 and their second league trophy after having won the Super League title in 2006.
NSFC clinched the Premier League title after collecting 41 points overall with a record of 12 wins, five draws and three defeats in 20 Premier League games.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also expressed his congratulations to the team for winning the Premier League and qualifying for the Super League next season.
He said supporters of the state team were encouraged to attend NSFC matches at the stadium after the state moved to Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan (PPN) soon but reminded them to adhere to standard operating procedures set to curb the spread of COVID-19.
