ALOR GAJAH, Aug 28 -- The Melaka Information Department (Japen) will implement 64 Merdeka Info On Wheels (IOW) programmes in conjunction with the National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations from August to Sept 15.
Its director, Mohd Rizal Hashim said the number of IOW programmes being implemented was based on the 64th National Day celebration.
As of today, he said 52 Merdeka IOW programmes had been implemented compared to the main performance index of 45 programmes set by the Japen headquarters.
“Among the contents implemented through the IOW programme are the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign to enliven the 64th National Day celebration and the distribution of about 3,000 Jalur Gemilang to residents in the state by complying with the standard operating procedure set by the National Security Council.
“In addition, the Melaka Japen also implemented the Merdeka@Komuniti programme which targets the local communities to fly the Jalur Gemilang in villages and housing estates,” he told reporters at the Lendu State Assembly constituency Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign Merdeka@Komuniti at the Masjid Tanah Public Market here today.
A total of 300 Jalur Gemilang were distributed at the market and 150 more at a nearby housing estate during the campaign, which was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
Mohd Rizal said the Merdeka@Komuniti programme was implemented in six parliamentary areas in the state.
He said the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign received the co-operation of various quarters, especially local community leaders, so as to ensure that all Malaysians would still celebrate the National Day and Malaysia Day this year with patriotic spirit although the country was still facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have distributed the Jalur Gemilang to all the 28 State Assembly Co-ordination and Development Committees to invigorate the waving of the Jalur Gemilang at the community level,” he said.
In addition, the Melaka Japen also organised the Melaka Ceria Merdeka Competition for the people of the state in appreciation of their spirit in celebrating the 64th National Day.
He said that through the competition, the people in the state could share interesting moments of flying the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the National Month at their respective locations through selfies or videos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok by using the hashtag #melakaceriamerdeka or #japenmelaka.
He said the competition was open to all residents of Melaka and the closing date is Sept 5, adding that five winners would be announced the next day.
