KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 -- A total of 28 players were called up for the national women’s football squad centralised training camp ahead of Malaysia’s two tough matches at the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in Palestine next month.
It is interesting that eight of the players listed are below 20 years old, with five aged 18 and the rest 19, giving a healthier competition for places in the national team.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), in a statement today, said the training camp which would start tomorrow under the quarantine concept as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The squad, under the guidance of chief coach Jacob Joseph, is scheduled to undergo centralised training at Wisma FAM for a week before continuing the training at the National Sports Council (MSN) in Bukit Jalil. They leave for Palestine on Sept 15.
At the qualifying tournament, Malaysia, who are in Group H, will play Palestine and Thailand on Sept 19 and 25 respectively.
