IPOH, Aug 13 -- The service of Perak FC assistant coach Mohd Shahril Nizam Khalil who has been stepping in as club head coach will be continued till the end of the current Super League season, Perak FC general manager Azman Noh said.
He said the decision was based on observation by the management and the players’ acceptance of Mohd Shahril’s current tactical approach.
“There have been changes from the tactical aspects and the the current game plan has been different and more convincing, in addition to assistance from Shahrulnizam Mustapa, who is acting as temporary assistant coach for the team.
“The players seem to be comfortable with what is being done, although we admit that we are still winless after two matches under his charge,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Mohd Sharil, a former 90s era Perak midfield and defence player, was earlier appointed to train the squad for two weeks, beginning with their match against Penang FC in Perak Stadium on Aug 3.
The temporary appointment was made by the management after considering the Bos Gaurus’ declining performance under head coach Chong Yee Fatt.
Azman said currently Perak FC players are attending a three-day centralised training camp that began yesterday (Aug 12), aimed at restoring their confidence and focus as they face the next four matches, a live-or-die situation to remain in Super League next season.
“We cannot reveal the location of our camp, and all I can tell you is that we’ve brought them together to let them bond, have heart-to-heart talks and such. This is the approach we use to build and strengthen themselves again,” he said.
Commenting on foreign players, he said Perak FC would likely only use the two Lebanese players, Jad Noureddine and Samir Ayass, in addition to British player, Charlie Machell until the end of the season.
He said, however, Jad and Samir are still under close observation after both of them were reported to have not cooperated with the coaching staff.
“At this time, we are giving both of them a chance and we will evaluate them during the training session. If they show their determination, I feel the coaches will field them. From what I’ve been told, there has been some positive development shown by both players,” he said.
