ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 12 -- The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar today expressed his appreciation to all frontliners for remaining strong in the fight against COVID-19.
Speaking at the opening of the fourth session of the 14th Johor State Assembly, His Majesty also thanked Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the federal government for providing more vaccines to the state.
“I would also like to express my appreciation to all parties who have extended assistance, whether in food or financial aid, and others, to help the affected people.
"Let us pray to Allah SWT, that this epidemic disappear fast so that the people can enjoy a perfect, peaceful and happy life," His Majesty said.
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim said this was the second year that the Johor State Assembly had to convene amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This situation is worrying me, especially now with a new variant of COVID-19 that is more contagious and spread faster...Therefore, the people are advised to be more careful, reduce movement out of the house and always observe the preventive measures recommended by the government," he said.
The Sultan of Johor also wanted the state assembly sitting to be held in strict compliance with the stipulated standard operating procedures and for the health risk assessment to be conducted daily.
The speaker should postpone the sitting if there is high-risk threat, His Majesty added.
Apart from the issue on management of COVID-19, Sultan Ibrahim also wanted the state government to draw up a new investor-friendly policy with attractive incentives in an effort to restore Johor's economy and create more employment opportunities in the state.
The State Assembly was adjourned until next Sunday (Aug 22) to make way for COVID-19 risk assessment
