5.8-magnitude quake strikes off Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture

TOKYO, Aug 4 -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on Wednesday struck off Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

According to Xinhua, the temblor occurred at around 1.40 pm local time, with its epicentre at a latitude of 36.2 degrees north and a longitude of 142.0 degrees east, and at depth of 30 km.

The quake logged 2 in some parts of Ibaraki Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
