Ethiopia's Barega wins men's 10,000m at Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO, July 30  -- Ethiopia's Selemon Barega clinched the first athletics gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics after winning the men's 10,000m race at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium on Friday.

Barega crossed the finish line in 27 minutes and 43.22 seconds, just 0.41 seconds ahead of Uganda's reigning world champion Joshua Cheptegei, according to Xinhua.  

The bronze medal went to another Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo in 27:43.88.
