Terengganu FC hand Perak FC a humiliating 5-0 drubbing

25/07/2021 01:12 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 -- Terengganu FC handed a drubbing to Perak FC tonight when they scored five goals with no reply at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium as the Malaysia League resumes after a two-month break.

The victory places the Turtles equal on points with Super League leaders, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), both with 30 points after 14 matches played. JDT, however, are ahead by goal advantage and have a game in hand.

The squad, under the tutelage of Mohd Nafuzi Zain, opened accounts tonight with a 19-minute goal by Faisal Abdul Halim, followed by a penalty conversion by Brazillian David Da Silva five minutes later. An own goal by Charles Machell in the 42nd minute wrapped up the first half.

In the second half, Mohamad Hakimi Abdullah added insult to injury for the Bos Gaurus when he scored in the 71st minute, and the humiliation was complete when young player Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat ended the match with an injury time penalty (90+4 minutes).

Meanwhile, the Klang Valley derby between Kuala Lumpur City FC and Selangor FC at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras ended in a 1-1 draw.

Kuala Lumpur took the lead through a Paulo Josue goal in the 40th minute before Oliver Buff equalised for the Red Giants three minutes later.

In Petaling Jaya City Stadium, a last minute goal by Sunil Chandran (90’) was enough to propel Petaling Jaya (PJ) City FC to a 1-0 victory over Sabah FC.

The match between Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC and Penang FC that was scheduled to begin at 9 pm at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar was postponed after two of the home team’s players were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.

Negeri Sembilan, meanwhile, failed to capitalise on home ground advantage to top the Premier League, managing only a goalless draw against Selangor FC 2 at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.

Sarawak United remain in the lead with 24 points after 11 matches so far, while Negeri Sembilan, having played 12 matches, are second with 23 points.

The FAM-NSC Project squad nearly managed to pull off a surprise in their match against Kelantan FC, but ended up losing 1-2 at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu.

The visiting team had struck first through Azhad Harraz Arman in the 54th minute, but Kelantan FC replied almost immediately with a Greek Christos Intzidis shot within the same minute. The hosts then had to wait till the end of the match to secure a win, scoring through Ismail Ibrahim in the final 90th minute.
