Representatives of opposition parties invited to be MPN members - Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23  -- The National Recovery Council (MPN) has agreed to invite representatives from opposition parties as MPN members, in line with the National Recovery Plan (NRP) approach which is based on the principles of collaboration, inclusiveness and whole-of-nation.

Finance Minister (and Coordinating Minister for NRP) Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the opposition parties included Pakatan Harapan, Warisan and Pejuang.

He said the MPN also agreed to invite representatives from the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to join the council.

“MPN also welcomes the willingness and involvement of experts from various industries, the private sector and non-governmental organisations as well as economic, social and health experts who have agreed to share their expertise and experience.

"The membership of opposition party representatives, luminaries and experts from various sectors will further strengthen the MPN membership as well as the implementation of NRP which is dynamic and needs to be adapted based on the current situation," he said in a statement today after attending the first MPN meeting. chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Tengku Zafrul said the MPN hoped that this diversity of opinions and expertise could contribute to, among others, the empowerment of the health sector; increased vaccination efforts; coordination, implementation and effectiveness of standard operating procedures as well as government support and assistance during the recovery period.

"Next, the MPN will also provide information on aspects of the NRP to the people in a transparent and easy to understand manner through the official NRP portal which will be launched on July 26, 2021," he added.
