KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 -- Perak FC II goalkeeper G. Yuganes has begun attracting attention as he rose to become one of the best goalkeepers by recording the highest ‘clean sheet’ in the 2021 Premier League so far.
The 22-year-old player, who has played in five out of 10 matches, has managed to keep a clean sheet three times, putting him firmly behind Sarawak United FC goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawee.
His sensational talent was first spotted by the Malaysia Indian Football Association (MIFA) when he was 17.
“Currently I take turns with Muhammad Farhan Abdul Majid. If possible, I would like to play more matches, hopefully this will propel me to expand my career as I want to play in the Super League in the future.
"The late Datuk R Arumugam is among my icons in football and I do hope to become like him one day. I hope to fill the void he left,” he said in a Malaysia Football League (M-League) statement. (MFL).
Yuganes was once called up to join the Under-19 national squad four years ago under Bojan Hodak, when he was playing with MIFA.
He also received some guidance by experienced goalkeeper V Murugan while at Mifa in 2018 before switching to the Perak President Cup team under former national player K Nanthakumar the following year.
Yuganes was optimistic that Perak FC II could make a comeback in the remaining matches as they were only second last in the Premier League after collecting nine points in 10 matches.
