Corporates, property tycoon continue to support B40 group

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 -- Corporates such as construction and fintech companies as well as a property tycoon understand the areas in which the bottom 40 per cent income group (B40), especially those whose incomes are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic need help and attention.

As part of the continuous effort to support the government in aiding the needy communities, Yayasan MRCB has taken a proactive approach to providing food baskets to marginalised communities in Penang, Perak and the Klang Valley with an allocation of RM380,000.

Chairperson Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng said the project aims to provide immediate relief and mitigate the impact of the health crisis in our communities as well as easing the emotional and mental stress experienced by those in the low-income category and underprivileged groups.

“More people need our help and we want to appeal to other corporations or individuals to support our efforts either in kind or through cash contributions,” she said in a statement.

Through the project, a total of 2,330 B40 families and underprivileged homes were identified to receive the essential food baskets in June and July, including single mothers, visually impaired persons, jobless and low-income communities.

Meanwhile, ACE Market-listed financial technology (fintech) provider, TFP Solutions Bhd (TFP) through its subsidiary, MBP Solutions Sdn Bhd has offered a OneCALL Mobile fintech solution in Malaysia that focuses on the B40 household income group and the underserved community.

TFP group executive director Puteri Munawarah Syammiyah Munir said the fintech solutions offered will include a built-in and approved co-branded e-Wallet powered by MobilityOne eM-ONEi, which helps users to make prepaid top-up purchases conveniently, data plan top-up and other payment services such as household bills.

“On top of that, the eWallet can be used as a salary account and receive passive income from promoting our value-added products. There is also the remittance feature that allows foreign workers including housemaids to easily send money back to their families in their home countries,” she said.

Simultaneously, Mah Sing Foundation (MSF) and its founder and group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum are joining hands to donate a total of RM300,000 to various organisations to assist those in need, especially those whose incomes are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The biggest sum of the donation will be contributed through non-profit organisations partners like OpsHarapan, Waz Lian Foundation and Hopes Malaysia which MSF is currently partnering for its Sustainable Livelihoods programme in Kota Belud, Sabah,” said Leong.

He noted that MSF itself will hand out the remainder to the underserved beneficiaries from its current programmes in Pangsapuri Enggang, People’s Housing Programme (PPR) Seri Alam and PPR Pudu Ulu, through monthly grocery distributions for at least five months starting next month.
