Md Amin appointed new UPSI vice-chancellor

PUTRAJAYA, June 23 -- Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), effective Thursday (June 24) until June 23, 2024.

Md Amin, 50, who was UPSI’s deputy vice-chancellor (Students Affairs and Alumni) since 2017, takes over from Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran who was appointed as the chief executive officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency on Feb 7.

The Higher Education Ministry, in a statement today, said the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions under Section 12(1) of the university’s constitution.

“The ministry believes that with this appointment, he will be able to contribute and lead UPSI towards a greater academic and organisational achievement, in line with the government’s aspiration to make Malaysia a regional and international centre of educational excellence,” read the statement.

Md Amin, who graduated with a Bachelor of Sports Science from UPSI in 2000, subsequently earned a Master of Outdoor Education from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2004. He also holds a PhD in Parks and Outdoor Recreation Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia.

He also has vast experience in the education, management and consulting fields, and had published over 120 books, journal articles, proceedings, policy papers, Cabinet reports and newspaper articles, the ministry said.

At the international level, he was formerly appointed as the director of the Education Malaysia Office in Washington DC, which is the largest Education Malaysia office in the world.
