MUAR, June 14 -- The mobile vaccination centre (PPV) in the Muar district will continue in several other areas, and the focus will be on village areas, especially the Orang Asli and Felda settlements.
Muar district officer, Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin, said that the district office will ensure that every individual registered for the vaccination process in the second phase, which involves the elderly, gets vaccinated even if they are living in remote areas.
He said that the mobile PPV programme continued today at the Kompleks Penghulu Mukim Sungai Balang, and is expected to run for 10 days until June 24, or until reaching the target of 2,000 vaccine recipients. This mobile PPV was first mobilised to the Kompleks Penghulu Mukim Air Hitam last week.
“We have also contacted several other parties such as the National Heart Institute (IJN), to increase the number of mobile PPVs in this district.
“Starting June 19, a mobile PPV will be placed at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Felcra Bukit Kepong, with a target of 1,000 vaccine recipients,” he said when met by Bernama today.
Mustaffa Kamal added that in order to launch this mobile PPV exercise, he had made a personal contribution by giving his salary for this month to the PPV committee for this purpose.
Meanwhile, Muar district health officer, Dr Noorhaidah Ujang, said they also plan to continue the mobile PPV in rural areas and villages.
She said if there is an additional amount of vaccine, the mobile PPV will be mobilised to the Lenga area, where several Orang Asli villages are located.
“We will also move to the Felda settlements, which also have the first generation which mostly consists of senior citizens,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sungai Balang assemblyman, Zaiton Ismail, said that her office, with the cooperation of the penghulu and village heads, took three weeks to register the vaccine recipients, numbering around 2,000 people, to be vaccinated starting today (June 14).
Meanwhile, vaccine recipient Kamsinah@Minah Eksan, 82, said she was grateful to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, moreover, its location is quite close to her residence, in Parit Jamil, about 10 kilometres (km) away.
She said that she had not registered with MySejahtera before, and also thanked the village head and Sungai Balang assemblyman for registering her, as well as for getting vaccinated today.
“Alhamdulillah ... I am grateful and happy after getting this vaccine; at least I can now protect myself and those close to me (family members),” she said.
Another vaccine recipient, Siti Marim Katomon, 68, said the location of the mobile PPV was only three km from her house in Kampung Parit Yusuf, Semerah.
“The location of the mobile PPV is quite close to my house so it makes it easier for me, compared with Pagoh where I was supposed to get vaccinated (prior to mobile PPVs being implemented), which is almost 30 km one way,” she said.
