Hakim to join Sharul in ETC 2021 season

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 -- SIC MiniGP Championship Season 1 champion Hakim Danish will set another milestone when he makes his debut in the European Talent Cup (ETC) on June 13 at Barcelona-Cataluña, Spain with Liqui Moly Intact SIC Racing Team.

Hakim is slated to join Sharul Ezwan as his teammate, according to a statement by Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd today.

SIC said Hakim was selected due to his outstanding performance at Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC) in Qatar where he secured three podium finishes. 

It said Liqui Moly Intact SIC Racing Team had extended the invitation for Hakim to race in ETC based on his exceptional performance and sterling effort.

Hakim said he was excited to race in ETC and was looking forward to competing with teammate Sharul. 

“I would like to express my appreciation to all my sponsors, especially IntactGP and SIC. I’m pretty sure I will gain valuable experience with this amazing opportunity. Thank you,” he said. 

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said he was delighted to see Hakim’s progress so far, especially in the first few rounds in IATC. 

Azhan thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Motorsports Association of Malaysia for their continuous support of their talent development programme.

SIC Racing team manager Zulfahmi Khairuddin hailed Hakim as a talented rider, saying he was glad to see the young rider get this opportunity to participate in the ETC. 

“ETC is a good platform for him to gain some experience racing against the best European riders at the European circuits. We’re confident that he can finish the race well and make us proud as a Malaysian,” he said.

To date, there are four Malaysian talents competing in FIM CEV Repsol Championship, namely Adam Norrodin in Moto2 European Championship, Syarifuddin Azman in Moto3 World Junior Championship as well as Sharul and Hakim in ETC. 

Both Hakim and Sharul are also competing in IATC.
