PUTRAJAYA, April 30 -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, today confirmed that it was his voice in the audio recording in the conversation relating to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which went viral recently.
He said that the content of the conversation in the audio was not an offence because he only asked the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, to give a list of names to be presented to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Hamzah said that it was in line with his duties as the chairman of the Police Force Commission (SPP), which would coordinate the duties of police officers.
“That’s right, it was my voice and I didn’t do anything wrong. What is wrong is that people ‘recorded’ my conversation with someone... that is an offence,” he said at a press conference after presenting the appointment letter to the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani here today.
An audio recording, with a voice similar to Hamzah, was talking about promotions and the change of roles in the police force, went viral on social media recently.
Asked whether he would lodge a police report on the audio dissemination, Hamzah said there was no need for him to do so.
“Not necessary (to lodge police report). The point was I was telling someone who was a very important person, and there was nothing wrong for me to tell him,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hamzah reminded social media users not to make remarks that could cause the people to feel dissatisfied with the PDRM.
He also said that the SPP will decide on the deputy IGP post in the near future.
Earlier, Hamzah announced that Acryl Sani was appointed as the new IGP, effective May 4.
The appointment of Acryl Sani as the 13th IGP is to succeed Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, whose contract expires on May 3.
