KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 -- Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) is expecting about 200,000 online zakat payment transactions amounting to RM30 million to be made this Ramadhan via the MAE mobile application (app) and Maybank2u web, following the enhancement of its online zakat feature.
In a statement, Maybank said customers can pay their zakat to all state zakat bodies in Malaysia through the app and its online banking website.
“For zakat fitrah, currently 11 state bodies are able to accept the online payment, namely Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Melaka, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Terengganu and Wilayah Persekutuan.
"With the ongoing pandemic, the online payment will enable our customers to fulfil their religious obligation this Ramadhan in a convenient and safe manner," it said.
Meanwhile, Maybank's Community Financial Services Malaysia head Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan said with the new enhancements, the amount of zakat fitrah to be paid would be automatically calculated once the customer selects the zakat body, the type of rice they consume and the number of family members making the contribution.
"Customers would not need to painstakingly search for the price of rice as stipulated by each state zakat body as it is readily available in the app, neither do they need to key in their personal details as we have automated this process.
"The akad for zakat is also displayed at the payment confirmation page, making our online zakat system the most complete one in the country presently,” said Hamirullah.
Besides online zakat, Maybank is also offering the eDuit Raya and eRaya greeting service on the MAE app to bring cheer to its customers’ Raya celebration.
"We target a 30 per cent growth in our eDuit Raya transaction this year, and we expect to see about 1.5 million eDuit Raya transactions amounting to RM115 million to be sent by customers.
"With the newly added fun e-Raya greetings and MAE-ga Raya game, we hope to bring some joy to families who are celebrating apart and liven up their festivity," he said.
