KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 -- National number one singles badminton player, Lee Zii Jia expressed hope that the recent sponsorship from Yonex would bring him more success in the future.
Zii Jia, the 2021 All England champion, also said that the sponsorship could serve as an impetus for other players and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to continue to develop the sport of badminton in the country.
“I am really happy…I do use and am very familiar with the brand since young, I hope I will ‘ong’ (be lucky) and achieve better results,” he told reporters after attending the Yonex-BAM partnership agreement ceremony at Academy Badminton Malaysia here today.
Commenting on his recent cash prizes and sponsorships, Zii Jia said he left it to his parents to arrange his finances, stating that he wanted to concentrate fully on his career and build on his recent successes on the court.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who was also present at the ceremony, said that he was confident the partnership between BAM and Yonex would help players improve their performance in future championships.
Chong Wei mentioned that Zii Jia had sought his advice on how to handle his recent good fortune, adding that he shared his own experience and was ready to help Zii Jia cope with his newfound success.
In the meantime, BAM president, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said BAM was confident that this strong relationship with Yonex would be for the betterment of the national badminton scene.
“We are looking at RM55 million sponsorship excluding bonuses throughout the five years partnership with Yonex,” said Mohamad Norza.
The five-year partnership between BAM and Yonex from April 1, 2021-March 31, 2026 involves a sponsorship in the form of cash, equipment, and services to 151 senior and junior players as well as coaches.
BAM and Yonex once forged a decade-long partnership from 2005 to 2015. Previously, BAM signed a six-year partnership with Victor starting March 2015.
