VSN 2030 set to breathe new life into National Sports Arena

06/04/2021 10:12 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is set to come out with a new initiative - National Sports Vision (VSN) 2030 - to ensure a more comprehensive, integrated and collective mapping of the direction and planning for national sports development in the next 10 years.

VSN 2030 is expected to breathe new life into the country’s sports arena by adopting the concept of “from community to community” so that the people themselves, regardless of their background, plan the national sports strategy for the next 10 years.

The vision, which aims to continue the legacy of sports as an effective tool for unity in society as well as to produce world-class champions, is a continuation of the 2009 National Sports Policy (DSN2009).

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Reezal Merican Naina Merican hopes that VSN 2030 will be filled with the aspirations and hopes of all Malaysians since it will be the official government document and text that is dynamic in the development of sports in the country.

“It simply cannot be stagnant and top-down. The time when only the government ‘knew’ about everything is over. I dream of a policy document that is always scrutinised and appreciated by the people,” he said in a statement today.

He also urged Malaysians, especially sports enthusiasts, to get involved in giving views and ideas for VSN 2030, seeing how it is set to determine the direction of national sports for the next decade.

The KBS also identified several key components that have been outlined as a guide for the people to draft the policy document for the new direction.

This includes empowering the sports culture in the society, sports excellence, talent identification and development, making Malaysia an international sports hub, empowering the sports industry as well as inclusivity and professionalism in sports administration.

In order to get ideas, views and aspirations from all parties, Reezal Merican is set to launch VSN 2030 Canvas virtually and it will be broadcast live on KBS’s official Facebook page, www.facebook.com/myKBSMalaysia, at 3 pm tomorrow.

Members of the public can participate in the VSN 2030 Canvas, which can be accessed online as well as through public dialogue (townhall) virtually and face-to-face soon, and further details can be obtained through the website www.vsn2030.my
