MELAKA, March 29 -- The Melaka state government today launched the Special Area Plan (RKK) for Ayer Keroh Tourism Zone in an effort to upgrade several touristic spots to continue to attract visitors to the state.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the plan is a development document prepared for immediate implementation and is categorised as RKK for areas with special needs.
“The RKK contains a detailed plan for the local authorities to develop the areas involved immediately.
“The cost for this study is RM500,000, funded by the federal government through PLANMalaysia (Federal Department of Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Housing and Local Government) while the publicity cost is funded by Hang Tuah Municipal Council (MPHTJ),” he told reporters after the soft-launch of the RKK at Seri Negeri today.
Also present were Melaka state secretary Datuk Seri Dr Hasim Hasan and MPHTJ president Datuk Shadan Othman.
Elaborating, Sulaiman said the RKK for Ayer Keroh Tourism Zone, spans over an area of 190.62 hectares, encompassing the Melaka Zoo, Botanical Garden, Dataran Sejarah, Ayer Keroh Lake, Mini Malaysia and Mini ASEAN parks, Crocodile farm and Wonderland Park.
“To strengthen and make the RKK area the leading iconic recreational centre incorporating elements of botany, ecology, and family recreational, there are 42 development proposals included and divided into three categories namely nine high-impact projects, 14 major projects and 19 supporting projects.
“Among them are proposals to upgrade the Dataran Sejarah, the Botanical Garden Entrance, Melaka Zoo, Hang Tuah Jaya Eco Bridge, Melaka Gateway Arch, and lighting around Ayer Keroh,” he added.
Sulaiman said the soft launch today was to inform the people of Melaka about the RKK, which is currently on public display until April 25 at the Melaka Zoo, Wisma Negeri and MPHTJ.
All views and objections can be submitted in writing or online before it is gazetted through legal provisions as stated in Subsection 15 (6), Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172).
