JAKARTA, March 26 -- The Indonesian government has closed the Michat accounts that use the ‘BO’ hashtag, in its efforts to combat online prostitution activities in the republic.
BO which refers to ‘open booking’ has become a popular term in Indonesia, that is used to offer sex services openly on the application.
Indonesian Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate, in a statement said the China-based Michat app operator has given its commitment to block and close Michat accounts that are found to have been used for prostitution.
Apart from BO, the status and hashtags that are often used by those who offer sex services online are #OpenBO, #VCS and #ChatSex.
Monitoring conducted by the ministry found that more than 1 million Michat accounts were detected to be involved in offering sex services online in the republic.
