BAGAN SERAI, March 11 -- Parit Buntar and Bagan Serai in the district of Kerian have the potential for continuous growth as industrial and eco-tourism areas due to their rapid development.
Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said these two areas have now been attracting investors due to their close proximity to Penang’s Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge and International Airport in Bayan Lepas.
"We still have land for development including building factories (in Parit Buntar and Bagan Serai) as the industrial areas in Penang, especially at Batu Kawan are already packed,” he said after releasing prawn and fish fry into Sungai Kurau in Kampung Nibong Hangus, here, today.
It was part of the ‘Menteri Besar with Rakyat’ programme held in Kerian district since March 9 until today, with 188,000 udang galah and fish fry worth RM25,000 released into the river for breeding purpose to assist fishermen increase their income.
Meanwhile, Saarani said the state government would not simply approve the development of padi land for housing projects in the state’s rice bowl.
“For every piece bf padi land, a change in its status for the purpose of housing development needs to obtain approval from the State Executive Council,” he added.
