MELAKA, Feb 11 -- Melaka United Football Club (MUFC) today completed the signing of two new import players to strengthen their team ahead of the 2021 Malaysia League (M-League), which will kick off on March 5.
The two players are Brazilian-born striker Alex dos Santos Goncalves and Filipino national player Manuel Gelito Ott, who filled up the ASEAN import player quota.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, who is also the Melaka United Soccer Association (MUSA) president, at his office in Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here, today.
Alex Goncalves, 30, moved from Indonesian League 1 club Persikabo 1973, having previously played for clubs in Brazil, Romania, Turkey and Indonesia.
Midfielder Manuel Gelito Ott, or better known as Manny Ott, previously played for Filipino club Ceres Negros. The 28-year-old, who has represented his country since 2010, is of mixed German-Filipino parentage and had also played for Thai League 1 club Ratchaburi Mitr Phol.
On top of announcing the contract extension of their two import players from last season -- Haitian Sony Norde and South Korean defender Jang Suk-Won, MUFC also announced that goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat had signed a two-year contract while defender Razman Roslan had signed a one-season deal.
It is understood that Melaka United will also get the services of Montenegro player Stefan Nikolic, who is undergoing quarantine in Kuala Lumpur.
