JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 10 -- Former Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) skipper Safiq Rahim is set to rejoin the team when the 2021 Malaysia League (M-League) campaign begins on March 5.
The return of the 34-year-old was announced via a 28-second video clip, which showed him being welcomed by teammates Matthew Davies and Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak. The clip was uploaded to the JOHOR Southern Tigers Facebook page today.
Safiq was with JDT from 2013 to 2018 before moving to Melaka United.
Meanwhile, JDT owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim posted a brief comment on the team’s Instagram page to confirm Safiq’s return to the Southern Tigers.
“Welcome Home SR8. 8 for mission 8,” he wrote.
Midfielder Safiq won a host of titles with the Southern Tigers during his previous stint, including the Malaysia Cup, FA Cup, Charity Shield, Super League and the AFC Cup.
