KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 -- Kuantan Port Authority chairman Tan Sri Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar has been appointed as the first patron of the 28-year-old Film Directors’ Association of Malaysia (FDAM) effective Feb 1.
FDAM president Dr Ahmad Ibrahim said the appointment of Tengku Azlan was a valuable gift for creative industry players, especially at a time when the industry was facing challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia.
"FDAM did not expect that Tengku Azlan would accept the association's invitation in such a short time after FDAM secretariat chief Mohamad Zaini Hassan and I called on him at his office to officially present the invitation letter earlier this week.
"We applaud Tengku's sincerity in accepting our invitation. Apparently, Tengku is a person who is concerned about the fate of artistes. In his busy schedule as a businessman and corporate figure, Tengku still has time to follow developments in the country's arts industry," he said in a statement today.
Tengku Azlan, 72, a younger brother of the late Sultan of Pahang Almarhum Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, served as the Member of Parliament for Jerantut for three terms from 1999 to 2013 and Deputy Minister of Transport from 2004 to 2008.
